AFTER SHOW UPDATE:
Let me just say, this was a show for the books. At least for me, the night quickly changed from being ‘awesome’ to ‘unforgettable’. Those of you who follow me on Twitter may have heard that I broke my hand a couple days ago. The doctor wanted to put me in a cast, which would obviously make it impossible to play the show. I decided to tough it out and play with a broken hand. It took a lot of prayers (and pain killers), but I was able to make it through my set as direct support for Secondhand Serenade. Now we’ll just have to see if I can manage the next 6 weeks of shows in a full cast.

I just want to express my appreciation for everyone who came out to the show. You are the reason I do what I do, and you are the reason that I’ll never give it up. The only thing that I could hope for, is that my music inspires you as much as you inspire me. I also want to give a special thanks to Elisa LeSueur who sang harmonies with me on a couple songs, and of course John Vesely (Secondhand Serenade) for borrowing my keyboard. I hope some of your musical talent and success was soaked into the keys for me to use.

ORIGINAL POST:
I’ve got some news that you might enjoy. In less than 3 weeks, the always-lovable Secondhand Serenade is stopping by for a visit. Or should I say… gracing us with A Special Acoustic Holiday Performance. It’s not a secret, so feel free to tell everyone! David Elijah and I (a.k.a. James Belliston) have been asked to open up the show.

As a side note… I’ve been so busy with my band Covendetta, that I haven’t had much time for solo shows. It’s been about 7 months since my last acoustic show, so I’d love to see you all there. And don’t wait until the last minute to get tickets. If you miss this one, your girlfriend will never let you live it down. Show is all-ages, and expect a night of acoustic serenading.

Aaron Gillespie

AARON GILLESPIE
Venue: Club Sound
Date: 03-23-2011
Time: 7:00 PM
Address: 600 W. 200 S. Salt Lake City, UT - Get Directions
Lineup: Aaron Gillespie, James Belliston, David Elijah, and Arienette
Cost: $12.50 (advance) - Get Tickets

You may know him as the former drummer and clean vocalist for Underoath. You may know him as the current lead singer and rhythm guitarist for The Almost. But recently, Aaron has been working on a new worship-based, acoustic solo project. According to Alternative Press, Aaron plans to release his debut album, entitled ‘Anthem Song’, early in March 2011. This sets him up for his first solo tour.

In a press release, Aaron said, “I have this desire to see our generation worshiping God. But a lot of people I get to meet through music—kids with tattoos and swoop over haircuts—don’t think of worship as ‘cool.’ I want them to find a home and a vocabulary to experience this kind of music.” Being a Christian musician myself, I can definitely relate. After all, music is about what inspires us. And sometimes we need things expressed in a language that we understand. Something we can relate to. We all know that the way we look and the friends we have, don’t determine who we are. So why let it distinguish what we believe in? And whether we believe in the same God or not, we all believe in unity and love. That’s what this show is all about.
